Seward Co-op Creamery Café, once housed the historic Franklin Co-op Creamery Association almost 100 years ago, and is now home to the one-and-only cooperative restaurant in the Twin Cities. The restaurant serves as the front to the Co-op’s much larger food production facility. The bustling kitchen is responsible for churning out all of the Seward-made sausages, baked goods, and deli grab & go items available for purchase in the stores. The Café opens daily at 8 a.m. with dinner service Wednesday through Saturday until 9 p.m. Stop in at your leisure, either on your own to enjoy one of our seasonal specials or some hand-dipped Sonny’s ice cream, or with friends to share a pitcher of Minnesota beer or a bottle of wine on our new patio.
The scrupulous Seward Co-op Creamery Café team works around the clock to serve dishes with integrity and compassion. Our dedicated staff takes the time to learn where your food is coming from, how it’s grown, how the animals are treated, and what the impact is of getting all of the ingredients from the farm or producer to your plate. We create fairly-priced, nourishing dishes, sourced from socially-responsible farmers and producers. We offer everything from simple sustenance to more creative dishes and hope you’ll share a meal with us this summer!
This Valentine’s Day treat someone special to a seasonal dinner at the Seward Co-op Creamery Café! We have extended our regular Tuesday hours to 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the full menu will be available until dinner service starts at 5 p.m. Call us to make your dinner reservation or feel free to stop by.
Our chefs have curated a special à la carte dinner menu aimed to please everyone — including those with dietary limitations. Look for beer and wine pairings on the menu from our knowledgeable front-of-house staff. We will feature an abundance of sustainable and organic ingredients, sourced, when possible, from local farmers with whom we have cultivated relationships for years. Couples and groups alike can order a starter and an entrée or a couple of starters or entrées to split. Just remember to save room for dessert.
The seasonality of our region is reflected in these winter dishes. You may notice that the focus of the menu has shifted from the bountiful Midwestern summer harvest to showcasing braised and stewed humanely raised animal proteins sourced from small, local farmers. Peterson’s Craft Meats and Whetstone Farm offer grass-fed, heritage breed beef and lamb. Rocky Acres and Star Prairie sustainably raise rabbits and farm trout, respectively. Thanks to Sissy’s Fresh Farm, our diners get the opportunity to consume something green and local year round. They do a remarkable job of growing our sprouts and microgreens.

The Seward Co-op Creamery Café relaunched this fall with a more casual, comfortable atmosphere and family-friendly menu. The café is housed in a building originally constructed in 1920. At that time, it was a dairy production plant, originally home to the Franklin Co-op Creamery Association, a milk and delivery co-op that would produce 80-percent of the Twin Cities’ milk supply in its heyday. The name “Creamery Café” acknowledges the cooperative roots of the building.
Café staff create everyday classics for the menu, with direction and inspiration from the community. The menu evolves throughout the seasons and features familiar favorites, vegetarian sandwiches, a classic burger, and brunch fare.
Seward Co-op Creamery Café is excited to partner with Sonny’s, a family-owned business that has been churning small batches of ice cream made with fresh, whole ingredients since 1945. Thanks to that partnership, the Creamery now also serves a rotating selection of seasonal ice cream.
Not only does the Café rely heavily on many of the small farmers and producers who provide our grocery stores with local ingredients, but we also source from ourselves. Café customers can expect Seward Co-op baked goods, sausage and housemade soups. Customers who dine in the café are also supporting the businesses with which Seward Co-op partners.
Seward Co-op Creamery Café leadership is excited to prepare foods that reflect the tastes of the community members who eat at the café. We will continue to develop menu items and specials that highlight foods that are traditional in Central and South American and East African communities.
